B&M’s £1.49 buy will stop hot air escaping through gaps and cracks – plus slash 30% off your energy bill

B&M shoppers are rushing to snap up a cheap £1.49 fix that could help keep their homes warmer and cut energy bills by as much as 30 per cent.

It’s perfect for filling in draughty spots around windows, doors and skirting boards.

The bargain buy is Turner & Gray Decorators Caulk, a 280ml tube designed to seal up pesky gaps and cracks around your home.

It also stops warm air leaking out and helps your heating work more efficiently.

Using caulk is a simple DIY job that can be done in minutes.

All you need is a standard caulking gun to squeeze the sealant into cracks, then smooth it over for a neat finish.

At just £1.49, this quick fix is far cheaper than turning up the thermostat – and could help families save money as energy prices remain high.

B&M fans have praised similar cheap fixes online, with some saying small draught-proofing jobs have made their homes feel instantly warmer.

The 280ml Turner & Gray Decorators Caulk is available in-store or online under product code 407452 – but shoppers will need to be quick before it sells out.

Reduce energy costs

The experts from the Energy Saving Trust broke down how much you can save by simply tackling draughts.

“Draught proofing around windows, floors and doors could save you around £85 a year in Great Britain,” they explained.

The pros also pointed out that by tackling these problem areas, you can lower your thermostat.

Gadgets to avoid putting the heating on

Throws are just one way of saving money on energy bills this winter.

Electric blankets cost pennies to run per hour and can keep you toasty while watching TV on the sofa or when you get into bed at night.

One model from Dunelm costs £16 and measures 120cm by 60cm.

It has three different heat settings to suit your preference and also has elasticated corner straps to ensure that it fits snugly to your bed.

Shopper reviews indicate that the product does a great job.

Another option for warming up on a budget is the trusty hot water bottle.

You can now buy wearable versions that will warm you up while you go about your business around the house.

For example, a wearable hot water belt is £15 from Matalan.

Or portable heaters can help you warm up just one room rather than turning on the heating for the whole house.

A plug-in heater from Dunelm is £18 and costs 13p an hour to run.
