Donation Fuels The Purchase Of New Support Bus For Sheppey Community

Housebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes recently donated a sum of £10,000 towards Oasis Charitable Trust’s Sheppey Support Project, covering the cost of a new vehicle since its food bank van was stolen from Holy Trinity Church in Sheerness.

The contribution from the housebuilder, who is building nearby at its Applegate Park development in Sittingbourne, means the full amount to replace the van has been achieved.

As part of the larger Oasis Community Hub Isle of Sheppey Charity, the Sheppey Support Project serves young people, families and community members of the Isle of Sheppey through a range of services. With the arrival of the new vehicle, the charity plans to use some of the funds to transform it back into its Sheppey Support Bus, which operates as a mobile food pantry as well as an advice and guidance centre, which travels around the island making it accessible to the whole community.

Natalie Perry, Sales and Marketing Director at Barratt David Wilson Kent, commented: “Supporting our local community means more than just lending a hand, it’s about helping each other in times of need. After hearing that the Oasis Charitable Trust’s Sheppey Support Bus had been stolen in Sheerness, we knew that we wanted to help in any way we could, as it not only affected them but also everyone they serve in the local community. With the donation we are not only helping in restoring their ability to continue their important work but also showing that in times of challenge, the strength of community can make all the difference. We are looking forward to seeing the restoration of the bus, allowing the charity to continue their work.”

Phil Greig, The Hub Youth and Community Leader at Oasis Charitable Trust, added: “Since our previous vehicle was stolen, we felt really lost and were unsure how we would recover. The generous donation that we have received from Barratt David Wilson Kent will benefit a great number of people in our local community once we are able to launch the new bus. With the new Sheppey Support Bus, we will be able to restart our social supermarket project and mobile youth service all around the Island of Sheppey, ensuring those that need our services are able to access it. As part of the project, we have lots of upcoming plans to work with the local community throughout the year all thanks to the funds we have received!”

Oasis Charitable Trust works nationally and in local neighbourhoods to build stronger communities where everyone can thrive. Over the last 35 years, the charity has been helping communities to end disadvantages and create opportunities for all, providing education, housing, health, justice and youth and family support.
