    Fire razes parts of Madina Market, cause under probe

    A dawn fire on Friday destroyed parts of the Madina Market in Accra, razing several wooden structures, shops and containers before firefighters brought the blaze under control.

    The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received a distress call at 1:36 a.m. from the market entrance. A first crew arrived within two minutes, supported by four additional fire engines due to the rapid spread of the flames and the absence of nearby hydrants.

    The inferno consumed two corn milling shops, nine containers and other wooden structures, but firefighters managed to salvage a one-storey warehouse and adjoining facilities.

    The fire was confined at 3:07 a.m., brought under control by 3:19 a.m. and completely extinguished at 4:40 a.m., according to the GNFS.

    No casualties were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

    The GNFS assured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property through timely and professional emergency response.
