PORT MORESBY General Hospital’s Emergency and Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department has been supported following a cheque presentation worth K174,637.70; funds that were raised from this year’s successful Islands Petroleum Charity Colour Run.
The first check for K87,318.70 to support the Emergency Department with critical display systems and ICT infrastructure, and the second for K87,319 to provide the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department with essential medical equipment including examination beds, colposcopy equipment, and facility upgrades.
Hospital director Medical Services Dr Kone Sobi during his speech last week Friday highlighted the significance of the donations raised through the IPCCR which is a testament to the spirit of community and shared responsibility.
“The funds have been directed to two of our busiest and most critical clinical areas; the Emergency Department and the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department.
“Our Emergency Department attends to more than 30,000 patients each year, while our Obstetrics Department supervises more than 15,000 births annually.
“These are areas of immense pressure, and your support will go a long way in improving the quality of care we provide to out patients and their families,” said Dr Sobi.
Islands Petroleum Retail manager Lloyd Trusty said the theme held under the Islands Petroleum charity colour (IPCCR) run was “We Are One” which perfectly captured the belief that we are stronger when we work together.
“None of this would be possible without our incredible partners and sponsors.
“The funds we have raised – over half a million kina – are going directly to where they matter most: health and education services at the grassroots level,” Mr Trusty said.
Sponsors such as Dulux Group and Boroko Motors expressed their gratitude at the ceremony to Islands Petroleum for the wonderful initiative, the opportunity to contribute to the community and to have participated in an awesome event which helped Boroko Motors sell a few cars.
This year, more than 10,000 t-shirts were sold, more than 2000 participants in Kokopo, more than 2500 in Lae and more than 3000 in Port Moresby.
Next year’s Charity Colour Run will reach Madang, Kimbe, Kavieng, and Alotau for the first time.
