Outpouring of grief after man dies in 'serious incident' at takeaway shop

People have spoken of their shock and sadness after a man died in a ‘serious incident’ at a takeaway shop. The man, who was in his 50s, reportedly fell ill at the property in Cresswell Crescent, Bloxwich, at around 9.40pm on Friday, September 26. Medics rushed to the scene but, sadly, the man could not be saved. Shirley Squires said: “Thoughts are with the family.” Elizabeth Castro added: “RIP. Prayers for the injured.” A third person wrote: “Wow, so sad. RIP. Condolences to the family.” Amid the incident, seven other people – including emergency staff – were treated for suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. A number of patients were then taken to the hospital for checks. Nearby residents were evacuated at the time of the incident and have since been allowed to return to their homes. A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We attended business premises in Cresswell Crescent, Bloxwich, at around 9.40pm [on] September 26 following concerns for the welfare of a man. “Other emergency services were also in attendance and a man in his 50s was sadly confirmed dead at the scene. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this devastating time. “Seven other people – including emergency service workers – were treated at the scene for the suspected effects of carbon monoxide poisoning. Some were taken to hospital for further assessment. “A small number of nearby properties were temporarily evacuated but occupants have since been able to return. “We will work with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to help establish the full circumstances.”
