Ravens' Defense Reaches New Franchise Low in Loss to Chiefs

The Baltimore Ravens came into Sunday’s matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs with significant problems on the defensive side of the ball that have held back their typically impressive offense. Unfortunately, their defensive struggles continued once again.

The Chiefs’ offense, which has gone through its own struggles to start the 2025 season, looked as sharp as they have all season long, putting up 382 yards of offense in a 37-20 victory over the Ravens.

While the Chiefs deserve plenty of credit for this, their success on offense may very well be just as much because of how poor the Ravens’ defense has looked to start the 2025 season.

After Sunday’s loss, which dropped the Ravens to 1-3 on the season, the Ravens’ defense has now allowed an average of 33.2 points per game on the season. According to ESPN Ravens beat reporter Jamison Hensley, this is the most points the Ravens have allowed in the first four games of a season in the history of the franchise.

To be fair to the Ravens defense, three of the four games they had played thus far this season were against the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, and now the Kansas City Chiefs. These are three contenders that generally have some of the best offenses in the NFL.

Regardless, allowing 33.2 points per game is never going to be a winning formula in the NFL. The Ravens will certainly need to figure some things out if they are going to dig themselves out of their 1-3 start to the season.

Fortunately for Ravens fans, they will get a bit of a reprieve on paper in Week 5, going up against a Texans team that is averaging just 16 points per game thus far this season, the third least of any team in football through four weeks.
