Caleb Williams Offers Strong Words After Bears Stun Raiders

On Sunday, the Chicago Bears picked up a second-straight win in surprising fashion, thanks to a late-game scoring drive followed by a blocked field goal to stun the Las Vegas Raiders.

In his fourth game of the season, Caleb Williams threw 22-of-37 completions for 212 yards and a touchdown. While last week’s performance earned him NFC offensive player of the week, this week’s wasn’t quite as stellar.

Facing a ferocious defense, Williams was sacked once and threw one interception. In addition, he fumbled twice, nearly giving up additional costly turnovers.

However, his late-game drive allowed running back D’Andre Swift to give the team a 25-24 lead, and ultimately set the stage for the thrilling finish. After seeing the blocked field goal attempt to seal the win, Williams appeared relieved on the sideline as he hugged his teammate.

Following the exciting win, CBS reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala asked the star quarterback to define the Chicago Bears’ identity. Williams collected himself before giving an ideal response.

“It’s the fight we have for each other. We knew when we went to that locker room that wasn’t our brand of football. The defense kept us in it. The special teams and defense,” he said, mentioning the “three sides of football,” including offense.

“Everybody stuck up for each other in the moments that we needed. We came out victorious in the end,” Williams said.

He also said this game would help build the team’s confidence due to the gritty nature of securing their first road win.

The Bears quarterback didn’t hesitate to offer some self-criticism in his postgame remarks either. Asked if he would receive “flowers” from head coach Ben Johnson for this game, Williams seemed doubtful.

“I threw a pick to their best player, so probably not,” he said, adding, “I think we’ll go into the locker room. We’ll celebrate just how we celebrated last week, because these are hard to come by as you just saw.”

“We’re gonna go fix everything we need to fix. We’re gonna go into a bye week and come out of it strong and healthy,” Williams said.

Chicago’s first-round pick also appeared fired up as he left the field after the win. A camera caught Williams in celebratory mode as he moved across the field, football in hand, and emphatically yelled, “Let’s go!”

The victory moves Chicago to 2-2 and keeps them relevant in the NFC North, as the Minnesota Vikings (2-2) lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin, Ireland, on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions picked up another win, defeating the Cleveland Browns.

The Bears have a week off to savor this thrilling win before preparing for the next test. On Oct. 23, they’ll face the Washington Commanders in “Monday Night Football” with a chance to get above .500 for the first time this season.
