The Summer I Turned Pretty may have concluded its run with the Season 3 finale on September 17, but fans got a delightful surprise: the makers announced that Belly and Conrad’s story will continue in a feature film, directed by none other than Jenny Han, the author of The Summer I Turned Pretty novel series.
Following the announcement, both Jenny Han and the show’s lead, Belly (played by Lola Tung), spoke about the upcoming movie during an interview on The Today Show.
Jenny Han Reveals If Belly And Conrad Will Get Married
The Summer I Turned Pretty showrunner, Jenny Han, appeared on a virtual interview on the Today show along with cast members Lola Tung (Belly), Christopher Briney (Conrad), and Gavin Casalegno (Jeremiah) on September 18. During the interview, host Savannah Guthrie pointed out that The Summer I Turned Pretty novel trilogy had a wedding at the end, but the season 3 finale of the series ended without one and asked Jenny Han, “Do we get a wedding in the movie?” to which Han replied, “I can say that there is another big milestone for Belly, so we’ll continue with that journey.”
Jenny Han and Lola Tung Reveal Details About the Upcoming Movie
When the host asked about the release date of the highly anticipated The Summer I Turned Pretty movie, Jenny Han stated, “It’s still a little too soon to say,” and revealed that she has already finished a draft with her co-showrunner, Sarah Kucserka. “We don’t know when it’s coming out, but not next year. Still have to make it,” she added.
The host further asked Lola Tung to share some details about the upcoming movie, to which the actress said, “I mean, not much. We have known for a little bit, but it’s fun that it’s finally out there in the world.”
Jenny Han’s Growing Partnership With Prime Video
When Prime Video decided to endorse the movie, Jenny Han felt it would give her series “its proper due”. As per reports, the author thanked Prime Video for continuing to support her visions. Moreover, Courtenay Valenti, Amazon MGM head of film, and Vernon Sanders, global head of television at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, were also seen opening up about their partnership with Jenny Han through a press release. “The Summer I Turned Pretty has struck a chord with audiences everywhere, creating moments of joy, nostalgia, and connection that have made it a global sensation,” their statement read.
