Commissioner Chukwuemeka, Others React As Soludo Ends More Decades of Abandonment in Parts of Anambra North

By Izunna Okafor, Awka

The Anambra State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka, has applauded Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for what he described as unprecedented transformation across Anambra North Senatorial District, citing landmark projects that have changed the narrative in communities and areas long neglected by successive administrations.

The Commissioner gave the commendation while speaking to this reporter, Izunna Okafor, after accompanying the Governor to inspect and commission some key projects across some communities in the senatorial zone, including Enugwu-Otu, Aguleri-Otu, and Mkpunando communities in Anambra East Local Government Area, and Nzam, the headquarters of Anambra West Local Government Area.

Following the recent commissioning of the Enugwu-Otu General Hospital, classroom blocks, renovated schools, Nzam road, and the earlier inspection of the road linking the Aguleri island to the mainland, the said communities were said to have historically felt some of the most significant presence and impacts of the government since their existences.

The Commissioner noted that Governor Soludo had made history as the first sitting governor to visit those communities twice within his first term, and more importantly, as the one who matched words with action by fulfilling promises made to them in 2023. According to him, the projects stand as testimony to why Ndi Anambra North unanimously conferred on Soludo the prestigious chieftaincy title of “Ọlụatụegwu.”

Recall that Governor Chukwuma Soludo, on Wednesday, made a historic entry into Nzam, the headquarters of Anambra West Local Government Area, where he commissioned the 13-kilometer Nzam Road, ending decades of isolation that left Nzam as the only Local Government Headquarters without a motorable access road since its creation.

During the commissioning ceremony, the Governor described the project as the fulfillment of a solemn campaign promise, affirming that his administration remains committed to reaching communities that had been forgotten. He emphasized that the project reflects APGA’s core identity as a party rooted in empathy and compassion, with the mantra of “Leaving No One Behind”, further reaffirming that his government is on a mission of transformation and development.

Governor Soludo, the same day, also commissioned a new administrative block within the Anambra West Local Government Headquarters, attributing it his administration’s determination to strengthen governance and service delivery. The historic entry of the Governor and his entourage into Nzam drew highly emotional reactions from residents who saw, for the first time, their local government capital accessible by asphalted road, a feat which past governments had failed to deliver.

Speaking during the event, the State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, observed that every local government area in the state has benefitted from Soludo’s projects in less than four years. He maintained that the era of selective development is gone, stressing that Anambra North in particular has seen jinxes broken and long-standing barriers removed under the current administration.

Also speaking, the State Chairman of APGA, Barr. Ifeatu Obiokoye, who welcomed decampees from other parties into APGA during the ceremony, said the massive inflow of new members is directly linked to the credibility of Soludo’s performance. He recalled how the Governor had pledged to connect Nzam during the campaign and affirmed that his fulfillment of that pledge has convinced more people to embrace APGA as the only party with proven empathy for the people.

The Mayor of Anambra West, Mr. Fidelis Nnazor, expressed gratitude for the tarred Nzam road and other interventions in the area, including the ongoing General Hospital project, free education, and free maternal healthcare services. He assured the Governor of the community’s continued support, stressing that the people can now truly feel the impact of government in their daily lives.

Similarly speaking, Chief John Ozoemena, who spoke on behalf of new APGA members, said their defection was inspired by the government’s developmental strides. According to him, they have seen the light in APGA and decided to join forces with the Solution Government to consolidate the progress in Anambra.

This reporter, Izunna Okafor, gathered that this historic commissioning of the Nzam Road came barely four days after Governor Soludo broke another jinx in Anambra North by inaugurating the Enugwu-Otu Aguleri General Hospital in Anambra East, alongside the opening of a primary school donated by the community and the inspection of the Aguleri mainland-island road project. The Governor, there, reiterated that education and healthcare remain central pillars of his agenda, insisting that no society can thrive without a healthy and educated population.

Recalling their ordeals before the governor’s intervention, the Chairman of Anambra East LGA, Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze, explained that it was impossible for vehicles to access Enugwu-Otu during rainy seasons in the past, and further recounted the hardship the pregnant women and patients were passing through before they could access healthcare in the area. He thanked the Governor for his intervention and for connecting the communities to the mainland, while also pledging their unalloyed support for the administration.

On his own part, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, also gave an overview of the brand new Enugwu-Otu Aguleri General Hospital and the facility therein, further highlighted other remarkable feats of the Soludo Administration in the state health sector.

Further speaking with this reporter in reaction to the multi-sectoral giant strides of Governor Soludo, whom he described as jinx breaker and the real Solution Ndị Anambra deserve, the State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources Chukwuemeka, also highlighted that, beyond roads and hospitals, the Governor has equally transformed the power and water sector in Anambra North and across the state.

He cited the restoration of pipe-borne water in the state with hybrid solar pumps and new reticulations after many decades of dysfunction and moribundity, the massive installation of solar-powered streetlights that ended the era of the wasteful and ineffective diesel-powered streetlights, as well as the installation and activation of a solar-powered in different parts of the state, the latest of which was handed over within the week at the Cave City Secondary School, Ogbunike, Oyi LGA; the “Okpoko Magic”, among several other projects.

These interventions, he emphasized, are not cosmetic but life-changing and concrete evidence that the Governor has broken many jinxes in the zone and other parts of the state.

He further observed that in Ayamelum, Ogbaru, Onitsha North and South, and other LGAs, market women, farmers, health workers, transporters, schoolchildren, and the entire residents can all bear witness to the governor’s transformative leadership, as they have begun to feel the direct impact of governance through shorter travel times, safer hospitals, improved sanitation, improved power supply, solar-powered streetlights, and better access to potable water. He maintained that Soludo’s approach is guided by equity and need, not by sectional politics, and this has restored the people’s trust.

While calling on Ndi Anambra North to judge by performance and facts, and not by campaign rhetoric, the Commissioner declared that Soludo has proven himself the true “Solution” that Anambra deserves; even as he called on the people to reciprocate the Governor’s gestures and translate their appreciation into massive support to the Governor in the forthcoming November 8 governorship election in the state, further assuring that “more developmental projects and jinx breaking would follow, because Solution Is Here.”
