Shettima heads to Germany after successful UNGA 80 outing

From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja

Vice President Kashim Shettima has left New York, marking the conclusion of his impactful representation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

According to a statement issued by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, at the global event, Shettima was praised by UN Secretary-General António Guterres for Nigeria’s aspiration to join the UN Security Council as a permanent member.

He stressed Nigeria’s role in global energy transformation by presenting a $200 billion investment opportunity to international investors.

In addition, Shettima reinforced key strategic partnerships with the United Kingdom, focusing on trade, defence, and migration. He delivered President Tinubu’s national statement advocating urgent UN reforms, Africa’s rightful control over its $700 billion mineral resources, and the promotion of digital inclusion projects.

The Vice President also held discussions with the Gates Foundation aimed at broadening healthcare and education programs, while positioning Nigeria as the central hub for the African Continental Free Trade Area’s $3.4 trillion marketplace.

Shettima was warmly seen off at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport by cabinet ministers and Nigerian mission representatives.

He is en route to Germany for further engagements and is expected to return to Nigeria immediately afterwards.
