In support of earlier statements made by The Puck’s John Ourand, MMA Fighting has indicated that Zuffa Boxing is expected to finalize a multi-year agreement with Paramount.
An announcement confirming the partnership could come as early as next week. This would provide clarity on where White’s new boxing venture will be broadcast.
Zuffa Boxing is set to be established under TKO Group and funded by the Saudi Arabia General Entertainment Authority. The promotion is expected to host around 12 events per year.
Roy Jones Jr. has doubts about Dana White’s vision for boxing
Zuffa Boxing’s plans to change the structure of the sport have sparked plenty of debate within the boxing community.
One of the main proposals, the Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act, would allow Zuffa Boxing to sidestep traditional sanctioning bodies and create its own championship titles.
Speaking to MMA Knockout, Roy Jones Jr. expressed concerns that such a move could be damaging, particularly from a historical perspective.
“If you take that away from boxing, you’re killing a lot of their history. And a lot of people, like myself, are not going to be happy with that. “So I don’t like it, no,” he explained.
“I don’t think (White will) be a positive. If he found out a way to work with the sanctioning bodies and do everything else, he’d be positive because he’s done it with the UFC.”
