The New York Giants are 0-3 record heading into Week 4 of the NFL season, and they’re hoping to turn that around with a win over the Los Angeles Chargers. The team is starting with rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart this week in place of veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, and while the team started things off on Sunday, September 28, but they got hit with some bad news early on.
New York lost a big part of offense in the second quarter of Sunday’s showdown against the Los Angeles Chargers when wide receiver Malik Nabers was carted off the field. Nabers stayed on the ground and clutched his right knee after trying to catch a deep pass from Dart. The medical team immediately called for a cart, and Nabers was taken to the locker room to get tested.
According to Ian Rapoport and TomPelissero, Nabers has a torn ACL. That’s a doozie and pretty much the news we didn’t want to hear.
Following the injury, most of the players on the sideline for the New York Giants came over to be with Nabers as he was taken off the field. It was sweet and touching to see them support their teammate that way. Wan’Dale Robinson banged his helmet on the turf, according to Steven Taranto of CBS Sports.
Now, Nabers’ injury is stirring up some talk online about the conditions that the Giants play when they’re at home. One NFL personality is making his thoughts clear on those conditions.
NFL Personality Talks New York Giants Safety Concerns
After Nabers was carted off the field, NFL insider Jonathan Jones from CBS sent out a message on X about the team’s field.
“MetLife’s turf is going to be a topic of conversation again after the Nabers injury,” he said. “They changed to a different type of synthetic turf 2 years ago and plan to have natural grass for the World Cup next year.”
“The turf took another player. Get rid of that turf,” one commenter said on X. “MetLife turf takes another soul,” another said.
Of course, the Giants aren’t the only team that deals with turf that, let’s say, is not player friendly. Plenty of teams in the NFL have players who have complained about the turf on their home fields. “The turf in NE & Carolina is equally as bad,” one commenter said.
The injury looked painful. Let’s hope and pray that he has a speedy and complete recovery. That’s not to mention the fantasy teams that are relying on Nabers, but of course, his health is what matters most.
The New York Giants and Russell Wilson
Now that Dart is the Giants’ quarterback going forward, whether or not Wilson will get traded is at the top of may people’s minds. On Saturday, September 27, Dianna Russini of the Athletic sent out a post on X putting the rumors to rest that Wilson would get traded anytime soon.
“I’m told that the Giants and Falcons have no intention right now of moving veteran backups Russell Wilson and Kirk Cousins,” she stated, also linking to her article about it.
So, even if Wilson isn’t quarterback No. 1 with the Giants, he’ll likely stay with the team, and he can certainly provide value. It would be great to see him mentor Dart and help him become a championship-winning quarterback. Dart is certainly off to a good start.
