The police have arrested a 50-year-old physical education teacher of a government school at Kottur near Anamalai in Coimbatore district for alleged sexual assault on one of his students, a minor girl.

The police said that the man from Tenkasi had joined the school a month ago, after being transferred from another school.

According to the police, the alleged sexual assault took place on September 24. The accused allegedly threatened the girl not to disclose the incident to anyone.

The girl confided in her mother, who lodged a complaint with the police. A team from the All Women Police Station, Valparai, arrested the teacher. He was produced before a court and sent to judicial remand on Saturday.
