CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 19-year-old man was shot and killed early Sunday morning in the Flats. Police arrested a second shooting victim who they say is a suspect in the incident.
Officers for Cleveland Division of Police on foot patrol heard gunshots around 2:33 a.m. in the 1000 block of West 11th Street and immediately responded to the area, a news release said. The officers were managing large crowds during bar closures as part of its entertainment district detail.
Upon arrival, officers found a 19-year-old victim with a gunshot wound and provided first aid. Cleveland EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
Officers searching the area discovered a second victim, a 24-year-old man, who had also been shot. Emergency medical services treated him and transported him to a local hospital for further care.
The Cleveland Division of Police Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit launched an investigation into the shooting. Preliminary findings suggest an argument between two people escalated into gunfire, according to authorities.
Detectives determined the 24-year-old man who was hospitalized is a suspect in the incident. He was placed under arrest and remains in custody while receiving medical treatment.
The investigation is ongoing, and police say additional details will be provided as they become available.
This incident comes several weeks after a mass shooting in the Flats that left six people wounded.
