Stop spiders 'invading' your home by using 1 kitchen scrap that 'repels' them

With spider season in full swing, you might discover your property overrun by these eight-legged invaders. The bathroom proves a particularly favoured location for these arachnids, which can transform a peaceful soak into something resembling a nightmare scenario for those battling arachnophobia. Fortunately, there are methods to banish these unsettling creatures from your property. Andy Ellis, bathroom expert at Vidalux, observed: “Spiders are naturally drawn to warm, damp spaces, so bathrooms can become a hotspot in autumn. Even though most species are harmless, they can be unsettling for homeowners — particularly those with arachnophobia!. “Regularly wiping down surfaces, reducing clutter, and sealing gaps around windows, doors, and pipes can make a big difference in preventing them from taking up residence”, reports the Express . The specialist reveals that one kitchen leftover might hold the key to repelling spiders from your bathroom. Andy emphasises that spiders generally despise citrus fragrances. He suggests positioning fresh lemon, lime, or orange peels close to basins, drains, and corners, which can serve as an organic repellent. Yet these aren’t the sole aromas that spiders loathe, with peppermint, tea tree, and eucalyptus also demonstrating effectiveness against these creatures. Combine these essential oils with water and spritz them throughout your bathroom or any other area where you’ve spotted spider presence. Mint and lavender are also fragrances that spiders detest, and Andy suggests placing small cloth pouches containing dried herbs in cupboards or nooks, which can serve as a gentle deterrent. Andy has revealed several additional techniques for keeping spiders out of your property. He referenced one traditional belief that suggests conkers will ward off spiders: “Some people swear by placing conkers on windowsills and shelves, as spiders supposedly dislike their scent. It doesn’t hurt to try!”. Since spiders particularly favour moisture, employing a dehumidifier or keeping the bathroom extractor running can make the environment somewhat less attractive. Another approach, which might seem rather odd, involves positioning an artificial spider in your bathroom. This technique works because it can bewilder or frighten genuine spiders away, as they steer clear of territories with rivals.
