A man accused of holding a woman captive in a tent for a week while repeatedly sexually assaulting her has been arrested. William Paul Thompson, 22, is facing multiple charges, including criminal sexual conduct and unlawful imprisonment, according to police. The alleged victim, a 21-year-old woman, told the authorities that she was held captive for a week and repeatedly sexually assaulted by Thompson, who was “homeless” and living in a tent. The woman further alleged that Thompson used a weapon to threaten her. “She eventually escaped, contacted state police and identified the suspect and his possible location,” police said. Thompson was then arrested after “troopers found evidence corroborating her statements”. The man, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, unlawful imprisonment, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, carrying a concealed weapon, and felonious assault with a dangerous weapon, authorities said, according to PEOPLE . A judge has set Thompson’s bond at $1 million (£739,000) and scheduled his next court hearing for 11 September. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison for the first-degree criminal sexual conduct charge, up to 15 years for unlawful imprisonment, up to five years for carrying a dangerous weapon, up to five years for carrying a concealed weapon, and up to four years for felonious assault. It comes after a woman was able to dramatically escape from a three-month kidnap ordeal – in which she was allegedly chained up, raped and forced to drink from a dog bowl – by banging on a neighbour’s door at 3am. She says she was tortured by a man, named locally as a 40-year-old truck driver Karel N, who held the 27-year-old in a basement of a house in the village of Sirem in the Czech Republic for three months. She told police she was held in squalid conditions and forced to eat and drink from a dirty dog bowl, only managing to escape the Josef Fritzl-like hell at around 3am on February 16 when she woke up neighbours to beg them for help. A resident who helped the woman told Czech newspaper Mlada fronta Dnes: “She had no hair and a thick chain with a huge lock around her neck. She was just skin and bones. “She said he shaved her head and rarely gave her anything to eat, just sometimes a little bread and water from a bowl, like a dog. He stripped her naked, chained her up, beat her, raped her and did other crazy things to her.”
