Three people were killed and several others were injured when someone on a boat opened fire on patrons of a waterfront eatery at a North Carolina marina on Saturday night, officials told NBC News. The deadly mass shooting rocked the Southport Yacht Basin in North Carolina after gunfire erupted from a boat late on Saturday night. Though there is no official confirmation, but social media posts identify the shooter as Nigel Max Edge, a local man with a troubled past. He is formerly known as Sean DeBevoise. The boat paused in front of American Fish Company at Southport Yacht Basin and a gunman opened fire, said ChyAnn Ketchum, spokesperson for the city of Southport.The shooter fled toward the adjacent Intracoastal Waterway, Ketchum said. Edge’s name has surfaced in connection to prior lawsuits, conspiracy claims, and even a celebrity link — once appearing at the 2012 CMT Awards with country star Kellie Pickler.According to Scally Wagandvaga Bond, a single-engine white center-console boat approached the area near the American Fish Company restaurant and opened fire on diners and bystanders in the busy Brunswick County tourist spot. Early reports suggest that an individual, possibly the gunman, was taken into custody shortly afterward. Officials have not yet confirmed the identity of the suspect or person of interest, but online investigators claim the alleged shooter is Nigel Max Edge from Oak Island, North Carolina.The shooting erupted around 9:30 p.m. near a popular stretch of restaurants and bars along the waterfront in Southport, a historic port town about 30 miles (48 kilometers) south of Wilmington. According to reports, the assailant approached in a small boat, paused briefly, opened fire on the crowd, and then sped away along the coast.After half an hour, a member of the US Coast Guard team spotted someone dragging a boat out of the water at a public ramp on neighboring Oak Island. Officials later informed that the individual was taken into custody and given to Southport police to be questioned.Neither the suspect’s identity nor the possible cause of the attack have been disclosed by the authorities. Netizens suggest that Sean William DeBevoise, a veteran of the US Marine Corps who legally altered his identity to Nigel Max Edge (or Nigel Edge),lives in the neighboring town of Oak Island, North Carolina, and is around 40 years old.In 2006, DeBevoise was reportedly deployed to Iraq and suffered significant traumatic brain injuries, including a potential gunshot wound to the head. Taking four bullets including one to the head, Sean’s life would never be the same, but it was the fact that all of this was at the hand of friendly fire that would provide the most crippling mental damage,” reads the book description on Amazon.“Sean killed insurgents on that fateful day when he was locked in a warehouse and left to die by his own men. Returning home, the nightmare seemed to become even more horrifying.
