MTN invests GHC 2 million to empower physically challenged persons and youth in Northern Ghana

The MTN Ghana Foundation has transformed the lives of about 160 physically challenged persons (PWDs) and the youth in the Northern Region through a GHC 2 million investment under its “MTN Enterprise Support Program”.

In collaboration with Innohub and Fidelity Bank, the initiative is designed to empower youth-led businesses, women entrepreneurs, and PWDs by addressing barriers to accessing funds, creating jobs, and boosting the local economy. The support also aims to foster social inclusion and promote financial independence among marginalized groups.

In Tamale, the northern regional capital, more than 160 business owners, predominantly PWDs, received support after successfully participating in a rigorous pitch competition. At a colourful awards ceremony, a beneficiary and member of the Ghana Society of the Physically Challenged, Mohammed Tahiru, expressed gratitude to MTN and its partners.

“They taught us how to package our products to attract customers and how to save our proceeds to secure our financial future,” he said. “MTN has broken the myth that many persons with disabilities can only beg on the streets. Disability is not inability, and with this support, I believe most of our financial challenges will be addressed in the coming years,” he noted.

Speaking to the media, Robert Kuzoe, Senior Manager at MTN Ghana, explained that the Foundation is committed to equipping beneficiaries not only with financial resources but also with skills to sustain their businesses. “MTN seeks to empower these people through funding, while Innohub provides the technical training they need to effectively manage and grow their enterprises,” he said.

The Chief of Staff at Innohub, Maame Serwaa Amoakohene, emphasized that the partnership with MTN is rooted in a shared vision of uplifting women, youth, and PWDs. “This collaboration is about ensuring that they become financially viable and are not left behind in the development process,” she stated.

The initiative reflects MTN Ghana Foundation’s continued commitment to inclusivity and economic empowerment in the country.
