The Los Angeles Dodgers are getting ready for October, and legendary pitcher Clayton Kershaw has announced that he will retire after the season. With Kershaw’s career coming to an end, the future Hall of Famer’s spot on the Dodgers’ postseason roster is far from secure, though. He has a 3.53 ERA in 20 starts this season, and in the postseason, the Dodgers will likely go to a smaller rotation.Kershaw may not get the nod over Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Emmet Sheehan or Shohei Ohtani as a starter in October. However, like other starters in the postseason, he could move to the bullpen. Manager Dave Roberts spoke on how Kershaw fits into the postseason plan.”I still feel there is a role for him, a spot for him,” Roberts said, per The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya.Ardaya also noted that Roberts said the roster is not finalized yet. However, Kershaw has not been as dominant as he has been in the past. This is no surprise as the veteran pitcher is now 37 and has dealt with injuries over the course of the last year.Starters coming out of the bullpen is a common occurrence in the postseason. However, for the Dodgers, the question will be whether Kershaw is a valuable option out of the bullpen. As much as the Dodgers would love to have Kershaw on the postseason roster, he may not actually be their best option. On the other hand, it is going to be tough to find a player with more experience for the Dodgers. Unlike in years past, Kershaw is not a lock to take the mound in October. However, Roberts has not ruled him out of making the cut.More MLB: Dodgers Make Huge Rōki Sasaki Change With Postseason Spot on Line
