New Delhi: Self-styled godman Baba Chaitanyanand Saraswati, accused of sexually harassing students at a Delhi management institute, was finally arrested in Agra after being on the run for 50 days. During his absconding, he frequently changed hotels, travelled across states, and even carried fake IDs to evade the police. Here’s a look at the key developments in the case so far: July 31, 2025 The Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management-Research in Vasant Kunj received a letter from an alumnus alleging that Chaitanyananda Saraswati (also known as Parthasarathy, 62) had sexually harassed students at the institute.August 1, 2025 The institute received an email from a Group Captain in the Directorate of Education, Indian Air Force, flagging complaints from several students who said they were threatened and sent offensive messages by Chaitanyananda. Students Make Shocking Revelation Early August 2025 The institute approached Delhi Police, submitted 300 pages of evidence, revoked Chaitanyananda’s power of attorney, and formed a new governing council of 11 members. A prior complaint alleging fraud, forgery, cheating, and criminal breach of trust had also been filed.August 3, 2025 The new council interviewed 30 women students virtually. Allegations surfaced that underprivileged students were forced to visit Chaitanyananda at night, threatened over academic documents, sent lewd messages, and coerced on foreign trips. Students also claimed cameras were installed in hostels under the guise of security. Three staff members were named as co-accused.August 4, 2025 FIR Registered: Based on evidence and student statements, the Delhi Police registered an FIR against Chaitanyananda Saraswati for sexual harassment and associated offences.August–September 2025 Absconding & Investigation: Chaitanyananda went into hiding. Investigations revealed he withdrew around ₹50–55 lakh from the trust account and obtained a forged passport.September 26, 2025 Bail Rejected: A Delhi court rejected his anticipatory bail plea in the fraud case filed by the institute.September 28, 2025 Arrested in Agra: After nearly two months on the run, Chaitanyananda was arrested at a hotel in Agra.
