Kristen Smith Appointed as New Director of Human Resources and Civil Service in Fort Worth

The City of Fort Worth has officially announced that Kristen Smith will soon steer their Human Resources and Civil Service as the new director. With a background that spans more than two decades, Smith’s expertise lies in a variety of sectors from spritely startups to industry behemoths, encapsulating both internal operations and consultancy roles. “Kristen Smith has built an outstanding reputation for leadership, innovation and dedication to fostering a workplace culture that values public service,” City Manager Jay Chapa was quoted as saying, per the City of Fort Worth.

Smith’s arrival comes at a time when the city continues to rapidly expand and needs to strongly manage the growth of its workforce. She will bring forth her extensive experience in devising strategic HR initiatives, amplifying employee engagement, and nurturing organizational development. Smith has previously served as managing director for the City of Garland, where she led a plethora of workforce services. Her role extended beyond human resources and civil service; she also oversaw risk management and the city’s healthcare facility, CityCare Clinic, as well as led the Office of Fair Housing and Human Rights.

Among her qualifications, Smith has a master’s in human resources management and a bachelor’s in business administration. Her certifications are varied and distinguished – she’s a Senior Certified Professional in Human Resources (SPHR & SHRM-SCP), a Certified Diversity Professional (CDP), and she’s even a Certified Mediator.

In her new position, Smith will oversee a department responsible for the City’s 8,075 employees, handling responsibilities from talent acquisition to the enforcement of the City’s anti-discrimination ordinance.
