A call centre in Gurugram, allegedly selling fake pills for enhancing sexual health, was uncovered, where people posing as doctors were luring people and selling the fake medicines, the police officials said. After the centre was busted, 11 people, including women, have been arrested and linked to the case, reported PTI. The cyber police team unearthed the call centre after receiving a tip-off, the police said. Following this, they raided the call centre, which was being operated in the basement of a building in Udyog Vihar Phase 5. Seven men and four women have been arrested from the call centre, linked to the case. Following the raid, the police have seized the mobile phones, fake capsule boxes, and oil sprays. The call centre used to buy fake medicines for as much as Rs 50 and sold them to their customers at over Rs 2,000, as the employees were earning their fixed salaries, along with commission from the fraud. The Delhi Police crime branch raided the centre, where employees were allegedly cheating American residents. They used to make US residents believe that their computers were affected by a virus or hacked, or that they had been swindled out of money in the name of fixing the issue, according to an Indian Express report. The police added that they received a tip-off regarding a call centre in Uttam Nagar involved in cybercrime, specifically the cheating of US residents. The police also stated that the call centre employed voice-over IP calling and caller ID spoofing, resulting in a loss to the exchequer by bypassing international long-distance gateways. Five laptops, five headphones, a router, and a mobile phone were recovered from the call centre. (With PTI inputs)
