ForbesNYT Connections Today: Hints And Answers For Friday, September 12By Kris Holt
This was a speedy Connections for me today, though fortunately the purple group filled itself, as it often does, as I would have never gotten that one by itself.
How to Play Connections
Connections is the second-most popular NYT Games puzzle game outside of the main crossword itself, and an extremely fun, free offering that will get your brain moving every day. Play it right here.
The goal is to take a group of 16 words and find links between four pairs of four of them. They could be specific categories of terms, or they could be little world puzzles where words may come before or after them you need to figure out. And they get more complicated from there.
There is only one set of right answers for this, and you only get a certain number of tries so you can’t just spam around until you find something. There are difficulty tiers coded by color, which will usually go from yellow, blue/green to purple as difficulty increases, so know that going in and when you start linking them together.
MORE FOR YOU
You pick the four words you think are linked and either you will get a solve and a lit up row that shows you how you were connected. If you’re close, it will tell you that you’re one away. Again, four mistakes you lose, but if you want to know the answers without failing, either come here, or delete your web cookies and try again. If you want to play more puzzles, you can get an NYT Games subscription to access the full archives of all past puzzles. So, onto the hints and answers:

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?
The full-on answers are below for each group, finally inserting the four words in each category. Spoilers follow if you do not want to get this far. The Connections answers are:
Blue Group – Global Currencies (DOLLAR, POUND, STERLING, WON)
Green Group – Intimate and Undisclosed (INNER, PERSONAL, PRIVATE, SECRET)
Yellow Group – Important (CRITICAL, KEY, MAJOR, PRINCIPAL)
Purple Group – Buffalo _____ (BILL, NICKEL, SOLDIER, WING)
Connections answers
Blue Group today made it pretty clear that somewhere in here was going to be a money-related answer, given that DOLLAR really cannot imply anything else. But DOLLAR BILL would have been the combination trying to trick you, and POUND could be an action while WON is the opposite of a loss, in addition to being a currency.
Green Group was relatively easy, as PERSONAL, PRIVATE and SECRET are all pretty connected without much puzzling. Finding the fourth word, INNER, may have been a bit harder, but there’s not exactly a trick group that would have been hard to extract it from.
Yellow Group is a little tougher, I feel. KEY and CRITICAL go together, but MAJOR and PRINCIPAL seem a little harder to slot in there. You also may have been thinking of PRINCIPLE, which is not the same thing at all. The Principal is your “pal,” I remember being taught in school.
Purple Group? I was probably never going to get this on my own. We have the legendary cowboy Buffalo Bill, the limited edition nickel that lasted for 20 years starting in 1913, the Black soldiers who fought in the Civil War and then…the spot where you eat a bunch of wings amidst cheesy decor and sports on TV. Quite the range.
