A skatepark in Cardiff has been completely transformed after falling into disrepair. Parc Coed y Nant, the large park to the rear of Pentwyn Leisure Centre is now home to a new concrete skatepark. Providing a new outdoor space for youths in the Pentwyn community, the park replaces outdated equipment with a modern 300m² concrete SPOT-style design, developed after community consultation. Further facilities have been proposed for the area surrounding the local leisure centre. Many members of the community in Cardiff were unhappy with Cardiff Council’s proposal to turn the former bowling green into new outdoor padel courts. Opening on Wednesday, September 10, after work began in May this year, the Pentwyn skatepark has been delivered as part of the council’s Neighbourhood Renewal Scheme programme, with funding from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund. He said: “Big up all involved it’s an absolute beauty and perfect for the Pentwyn area. It’s great to see the Welsh government and Cardiff Council investing in skateparks all over our city and beyond. “Giving our younger and older generation somewhere to go for a good shred.” Councillor Lee Bridgeman, attending the opening of the skatepark, said: “The facilities that were here before were in poor condition and underused, despite strong local demand. “This redevelopment shows our commitment to investing in spaces that matter to young people and the wider community.” Get Cardiff news updates on your phone by joining our WhatsApp community here .
