Odisha celebrates World Tourism Day

Bhubaneswar: Odisha joined the global community in celebrating World Tourism Day 2025 Saturday, observing the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”

The Tourism department organised a series of vibrant programmes across the state, showcasing the vital connection between culture, community engagement, and sustainable development.

District-level celebrations included quiz competitions on sustainability and heritage, drawing enthusiastic participation from students.

At Biju Patnaik International Airport, visitors were welcomed traditionally with a tilak and floral offerings.

Despite heavy rains, Odisha Walks organised a heritage trail at Ekamra Kshetra, where participants enjoyed storytelling around Bindusagar Lake.

A cultural evening at Rabindra Mandap saw the presence of MLA Babu Singh and senior Tourism department officials.

The event featured the release of Paribrajaka 2025, the department’s annual souvenir, followed by a play staged by the cultural department.

The Tourism department also engaged youth influencers to promote Odisha’s culture and sustainable tourism initiatives online.

A special cleanliness drive at the Unesco World Heritage Site of Konark Sun Temple highlighted the state’s commitment to responsible tourism.

The initiative emphasised the importance of preserving heritage monuments and showcased the State’s strong commitment to sustainable tourism.

Volunteers, students, and local stakeholders actively took part in the drive, promoting the message of responsible tourism.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, in a social media message, said, “On this World Tourism Day 2025, we celebrate tourism as a force for sustainable transformation.

Odisha’s timeless culture, natural wonders, and warm hospitality make it a destination where every journey preserves heritage and nurtures the future.”
