Breana Budd’s Big Dream, One Bead at a Time

Breana Budd’s Big Dream, One Bead at a Time

We’re closing out this month’s Bright Side theme of New Beginnings with a story that proves it’s never too early to chase your dreams. Meet Breana Budd, she’s just fourteen years old, but she’s already turning a simple love for beads into a booming business. That’s right, this young entrepreneur is creating her own path, one bracelet at a time. I sat down with Breana to find out how it all started, and where she’s headed next.

For most teens, after school means scrolling through their phones. But for Breana Budd, it’s something completely different. Instead of swiping screens, she’s stringing beads, each tiny click a step toward a big dream. At just fourteen, Breana isn’t just making jewelry; she’s building a business, one handbag at a time.

“ When i was making bracelets at school, i started experimenting and I discovered the technique to start making the sheets of beads. Then while on TikTok, one day I discovered that people use the same technique to make beaded purses. And I said, why not try it? Because I like to try new crafts and art stuff.”

When she’s not working with beads and thread, Breana is just like any other fourteen-year-old. She has homework, chores, and time with friends. But her calm focus and love for creating sets her apart.

“I’m a lover of art crafts. Anything pretty, anything that I can make myself and anything that is easy for me to learn.  This is like my therapy. Listening to music and sitting down and starting it or making it, continuing it, and coming up with new styles and ideas.”

Every one of Breana’s handbags starts the same way, with a single thread and a design sketched in her notebook. She’s completely self-taught, learning through online tutorials and plenty of trial and error. Now, she’s mastered intricate patterns and is crafting luxury, handmade purses that turn heads. She’s already sold two of her stunning, beaded handbags.

“I’ve always loved making bracelets and beads since I was young. So when I started to do that, it motivated me and then when I started to expand, I, they knew attention, I would say, of all of this. It really, at first, kinda overwhelming, but then I realized if it worked out. It could be a big change for me. A big good change.”

Entrepreneurship clearly runs in the family. Before Breana ever strung her first bead, she watched her mother create a name for herself as a respected beautician. That example of independence and creativity set the stage for Breana’s business dreams.

“ Since I was young, I’ve always seen my mother doing here, upgrading, having a bigger clientele. So I thought if she could do it and do it so well, then I can do it and do it so well.”

Avrile Budd, Mother

“ We sit down together late nights and we try to figure out different ways to captivate people. And with that, I have noticed she listens more and she accepts my feedback, good or bad. And sometimes she comes, mommy, mommy, look at this. Look at this. And I love that bond because as a mother and daughter, you need to create that bond so that the child feels safe that they can come and talk to you. We have become real close within the past two years.”

Breana’s handmade bags are turning heads everywhere she takes them. Focused on growing as an entrepreneur, Budd is building her online presence, while her mother helps spread the word from her salon, proudly marketing each design to her clients and friends.

“I feel very happy, very proud of myself when someone says that they really love my product because I never thought that I would be here. You know, with all of this, it started as a hobby with an idling child. With love, art, and then other people acknowledging it, It feels really, really good.”

With each completed bag, she is charting her own new beginning as she turns her passion into the first steps of her own entrepreneurial journey, one design, bead and dream at a time. Looking on the Bright Side, I’m Sabreena Daly.
