HBO Max looks to be bringing plenty of great new releases our way in October. Naturally, there’s some spooky stuff on the horizon for Halloween, most notable “IT: Welcome to Derry,” plus more horror arrivals like “The Substance” and A24’s “Bring Her Back”, plus more acclaimed watches like A24’s “Sorry, Baby.”
If you’re instead looking for somewhat of a lighter watch, then we’d instead point you to “The Chair Company,” a fresh dose of chaos from the minds of Tim Robinson and Zach Kanin. ‘Bring Her Back’
Dubbed “one of the most spine-chilling movies of 2025 (so far)” by TG’s own Rory Mellon back in July, “Bring Her Back” is the latest supernatural horror feature from the Philippou brothers (“Talk to Me”), and sees a brother and sister uncovering a terrible ritual at the home of their new foster mother.
After the death of their father, Andy (Billy Barratt) and Piper (Sora Wong) are taken in by Laura (Sally Hawkins), and as they get used to their new home, they realize that Laura harbors some seriously sinister intentions.

‘The Substance’
If you’ve not yet had a chance to stream one of the most talked-about movies of 2024, or you want a bit of body horror to look forward to now we’re heading into spooky season, then “The Substance” should be on your radar. Coralie Fargeat’s electric horror effort is an enthralling, wicked (and decidedly gross) delight, one that boasts a phenomenal performance from Demi Moore.
As she’s being forced out of the industry, fading fitness personality Elisabeth Sparkle (Moore) takes “The Substance,” a mysterious drug which promises to generate a younger, “better” you (played here by Margaret Qualley) … so long as you follow “The Substance’s” instructions.

‘The Chair Company’ (October 12)
Are you a fan of “I Think You Should Leave” and Tim Robinson’s chaotic comedic brand? Then “The Chair Company” looks like it’ll be your No. 1 watch this month.
This new series sees Robinson taking on the role of William Ronald Trosper, a man who finds himself investigating a far-reaching, elaborate conspiracy after an embarrassing incident in the workplace. It’s created by Robinson and Zack Kanin (co-creators of “ITYSL”), and looks to be a chaotic, wild ride, based on the above trailer. Like what you see? You can look forward to new episodes streaming weekly through to the season finale on 11/30.

‘IT: Welcome to Derry’ (October 26)
There’s even more horror in store this month, as Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd is returning as Pennywise the Clown to terrorize the town of Derry, Maine (and us viewers) in the forthcoming prequel series “IT: Welcome to Derry”.
Set in the world of Stephen King’s “IT” universe, the new show, as HBO puts it, “expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti” in his two “IT” movies. Throwing us back in time to the 1960s, “IT: Welcome to Derry” is poised to explore the entity’s origins and more of Derry’s troubled past. And as the first episode is dropping near the end of October, it should make for premium Halloween viewing.

‘Sorry, Baby’ (October 30)
Eva Victor’s “Sorry, Baby” black comedy/drama feature debut is a movie that “triumphantly announces writer-director and star Eva Victory as a formidable talent” (per Rotten Tomatoes’ critics’ consensus). It landed rave reviews earlier in the year, and it’s coming to HBO Max right at the end of the month.
This acclaimed A24 project introduces us to Agnes (Victor), a literature professor who is trying to make sense of life after being sexually assaulted, and when a friend on the brink of a big milestone pays her a visit, she realizes how stuck she’s been and begins to figure out how to move forward.
