British singer Lola Young gave her fans a big scare in New York. The 24-year-old artist collapsed on stage while performing at the All Things Go Music Festival on September 27. She was singing her track Conceited when she suddenly went down, and medical staff had to rush to help her. The singer was carried off stage, and many in the crowd worried about her health. Later, she shared a short message online to reassure fans that she was “doing OK.”
Young was carried off stage by medical personnel and later addressed her fans through social media. “Hi, for anyone who saw my set at All Things Go today, I am doing OK now,” she wrote, adding, “Thank you for all of your support, Lola xxx.” The post did not specify the reason behind her collapse.
During her set, Young had hinted at personal struggles over the past several days. “Sometimes life can really make you feel like you can’t continue, but you know what, today I woke up and I made the decision to come here, and I wanted to be cool … and sometimes life can throw you lemons, and you just gotta make lemonade,” she told the audience before the incident.
The collapse came just a day after Young canceled her scheduled performance at Audacy’s We Can Survive concert on September 26. At the time, her manager Nick Shymansky shared a statement on Instagram explaining her absence. “There are [occasionally] days where myself and my team have to take protective measures to keep her safe. She is an incredible person and always takes her fans, career and performances seriously. I can only send huge apologies for the inconvenience caused,” he wrote, describing the reason as a “sensitive matter.”
Young has been candid about her struggles with mental health, revealing that she was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder at the age of 17. In past statements, she has described the impact of the diagnosis on her life and career.
“I cant find the words to describe how much this diagnosis has affected my entire life, and my outlook on the world around me. I have struggled immensely learning to accept this part of myself, and I am still learning,” she previously shared.
She added, “I have to remind myself that I am a regular f—— person, I am human and I am, like everyone, capable of incredible things, my mental health condition does not define me. It is my superpower.” The singer also acknowledged she often experiences “crazy f—— highs and immense lows.”
According to the Cleveland Clinic, schizoaffective disorder is a condition in which individuals experience a combination of symptoms from schizophrenia such as psychosis along with mood disorders like depression or mania. Treatment usually involves a combination of therapy and medication.
