Karur tragedy: Over 39 dead, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin meets injured at hospital and announces inquiry led by retired judge

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin late on Saturday night visited the Government Medical College and Hospital in Karur, where he met those injured in the tragic stampede. The incident took place during a rally addressed by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and actor Vijay and left at least 39 people dead.Stalin also met the families of the victims and paid tribute to those who lost their lives. After landing in Trichy from Chennai, he travelled to Karur by road to assess the situation.Following the tragedy, the Chief Minister announced financial aid of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the victims and Rs 1 lakh each to those undergoing treatment in hospitals.— ANI (@ANI) He also announced the formation of a one-member Commission of Inquiry, headed by retired High Court Judge Justice Aruna Jagadeesan, to investigate the incident and submit a report to the government.Karur tragedy: Stalin’s statementIn a statement, Stalin expressed deep grief and described the loss as “irreparable.”Live Events”On receiving the heartbreaking news that people lost their lives in the crowd crush at the political campaign meeting of Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam in Karur today (27.09.2025), I was deeply shocked and pained,” the statement read.”These priceless lives lost have shaken all our hearts. I convey my deepest condolences and comfort to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident.”He further added, “Those who fainted after being trapped in the crowd and those whose health has deteriorated are being provided immediate treatment at Karur Government Hospital, as per the orders of the Honorable Chief Minister.
