Now, after his beloved sons, Shedeur Sanders and his protege, Travis Hunter, have moved to the NFL, Coach Prime has doubled down on roster depth to fill those gaps for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
And Sanders and Co. are hoping some of that void will be filled by a blue-chip recruit, JayQuan Snell. He is a recruit from the class of 2027 who is widely considered one of the best young defensive backs in the country. He hails from Waxahachie (TX) and is listed at 6’3, 190 pounds. Replying to Snell’s X post, Deion Sanders Jr. offered him a 3-word suggestion: “Come be legendary.” This could not have come from a better person. Sanders Jr., thanks to his venture ‘Well Off Media’, is someone who understands the culture of the program more closely than any other person. It’s literally his job to document the culture, so his words do carry a lot of weight for someone like Snell, who could consider Colorado as a place he’d want to be in.

On the field, his game revolves around range, speedy bursts (courtesy of his field background), and playmaking in spaces. His transitions are fluid, and his recovery is fast. These traits make him a menace for matchup roles against bigger slot receivers and athletic tight ends. Analysts have written at length about his early-season form and impact. His breakout sophomore season consisted of 86 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 INT, 1 FF, and 1 FR in 13 games. And the offer list is marred with top schools like Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, Florida State, etc.

The big picture is that Snell’s pursuit is important for Colorado’s future. The 2025 squad doesn’t have a lot of blue-chip talent, which is yet another reason for them struggling this year.
