The Kansas City Chiefs are still basking in their nice win over the New York Giants last Sunday in New York City, and it was a must-win for the franchise, because they were 0-2 going into the game. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the crew weren’t going to let their season start 0-3, and they capped off the game with a solid 22-9 victory.
Of course, each week, the NFL hands out punishments for players that take actions on the field that are deemed as inappropriate or against the league’s rules. Some of those punishments are for actions that could physically hurt players on the field, and others are for just bad sportsmanship. “To protect players from unnecessary risk and preserve competitive balance and game integrity, the NFL and NFL Players Association have agreed on a set of game-related rules violations that may result in accountability measures,” the NFL states. The league updates the roster every Saturday with offenses from the previous week.
Following the win over the Giants, Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt has been slapped with a penalty from the NFL. It’s worth noting that Hunt had a monster of a game, though, and cocked a touchdown.
Kansas City Chiefs Running Back in Hot Water
Hunt is going to have to pay the NFL for his actions against the Giants. After his touchdown, the Chiefs were given a flag, and Hunt was called for an unsportsmanlike penalty after he celebrated the touchdown by making a throat slash motion. So, the Chiefs had to try to get their extra point from the 48-yard line, and they missed it.
Hunt is being fined $8,172 for “unsportsmanlike conduct” and a “violent gesture.” You can watch the play go down below.
No other members of the Chiefs were fined on Saturday, and no Giants got slapped with fines.
It’s worth noting that the bag goes to a good cause. According to the NFL, the fines go to the “Professional Athletes Foundation to support Legends in need and the NFL Foundation to further support the health, safety and wellness of athletes across all levels, including youth football and the communities that support the game.” Since they started doing this in 2011, roughly $4 million a year has been used to support those causes, so it adds up.
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Baltimore Ravens Predictions
The predictions are in, and it’s pretty split and which team people think will win on Sunday. But, some of the momentum seems to be shifting to the Ravens.
The Los Angeles Times’ Sam Farmer says that “Kansas City’s offense looks slow and out of sync, while Baltimore has the NFL’s most complete team on paper and Lamar Jackson is always a threat. Baltimore’s defense and ground attack will control the game.”
“Worthy being back is big,” notes ESPN’s Mina Kimes. “They haven’t really had someone who could win on out-breakers in this offense. It’s something they were doing with him. Even if he’s not a deep threat, his ability to get yards after the catch could be big against this defense.”
ESPN’s Seth Walder has a “bold prediction” that “the Ravens will win by double digits,” adding, “Detroit was able to run the ball incredibly effectively against the Ravens last week, and that gave it an edge. The Chiefs have no such threat, and without it, I think we’ll see Baltimore as the clearly superior team over Kansas City.”
The Ravens are coming off a loss to the Detroit Lions, so they’ll be angry coming into the Chiefs matchup. It’ll make for a fiery game, for certain.
