The Buffalo Bills have started off the season strong. They had an incredible comeback victory against the Baltimore Ravens and continued to dominate the New York Jets in Week 2. The Dolphins, on the other hand, have been struggling mightily. They got absolutely dominated by Daniel Jones and the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, and lost a close game to the New England Patriots in Week 2.
Bills Offense Is On Fire!
The Buffalo Bills have gotten off to a blazing start offensively, as Josh Allen continues to make the case as to why he’s the best QB in the AFC. Allen threw for 394 yards against the Ravens and had two passing and rushing touchdowns. James Cook was also dominant last week against the New York Jets. Cook is rushing for 132 yards, carving up New York’s defense.
Through two weeks of the season, Buffalo’s offense ranks #1 in the NFL, averaging 35.5 PPG. Their offense is unstoppable right now, and the Dolphins have a tough task in stopping them this week.
Dolphins Struggles Continue
The Miami Dolphins have gotten off to the worst start they could’ve had, getting blown out by the Indianapolis Colts. Tua Tagovailoa threw for just over 100 yards and two interceptions. On the other side, Daniel Jones threw for 272 yards and 1 touchdown. The Colts ended up scoring on every possession in the game. Against the Patriots, Miami’s defense continued to struggle. The Patriots had a total of 333 yards on offense, 230 of those yards came through the air.
In the past, the Dolphins’ offense was capable of keeping up with the opposing offense, but that has changed. The defense continues to be lackluster, but now the offense has taken a step back, averaging just 17.5 points per game. A poor offensive line, along with poor play from their quarterback, has been the deciding factor. Even if the offense was firing on all cylinders, it still might not be enough to win games.
Their defense has allowed 33.0 points per game through two weeks so far, and will face one of the best offenses in the entire league tonight. They haven’t been able to defend the run or pass, and every part of their defense has struggled thus far.
Bills Look To Keep Firing
Buffalo will maintain the same game plan as in previous weeks, which is to dominate the passing game. Josh Allen has a dream matchup against this Dolphins defense tonight and has played well against them throughout his entire career. Per NFL Stats, Allen is 8-0 against Miami at home, with 2,110 passing yards, and 24 passing touchdowns.
James Cook will also look to continue his dominant performance against the Jets last week. Last year, Cook had 21 carries for 122 yards and 3 touchdowns against the Dolphins. The Bills will have arguably their best matchup of the season, going up against the 2nd worst defense in the NFL. With a win tonight, the Bills will have beaten half of their division rivals, with just the New England Patriots remaining.
Can Miami Pull Off The Upset?
The chances of the Dolphins getting their first win of 2025 tonight are slim, but not impossible. The key for the Dolphins is going to be attacking the Bills early, using speed to their advantage. In both games against the Bills last season, Devon Achane had a lot of success running the ball. Rushing for over 150 yards, 3 touchdowns, and averaging well over 4 yards per carry.
If they can establish the running game early, the passing offense should find its rhythm. Tyreek Hill hasn’t had an eye-opening performance in a long time, and Mike McDaniel needs to get him involved and push the ball downfield. As for Jaylen Waddle, he will undergo pregame warmups to test his shoulder and make sure he’s 100% before suiting up against Buffalo.
Lastly, Tua needs to be sharp tonight. Josh Allen and the Bills’ offense will capitalize quickly on any mistakes they make. Tagovailoa needs to have one of his vintage performances, where he would throw for well over 250 yards, to have any chance in upsetting one of the top teams in the AFC.
