Jersey City families will have improved access to nutrition and healthcare services when a new satellite clinic opens on Thursday, Oct. 2.
This marks the opening of the first WIC satellite location since the COVID-19 pandemic.
WIC, an acronym for Women, Infants and Children, is a federal assistance program that provides free healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to other services to help support women and children.
The new satellite clinic will operate every Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon at Metropolitan Family Health Network, located at 935 Garfield Ave.
The partnership between Jersey City’s WIC program and Metropolitan Family Health Network will allow expectant mothers to complete WIC applications and access benefits during their prenatal visits.
“The new clinic reflects Jersey City’s ongoing commitment to making equitable healthcare more accessible and supportive for every resident,” said Jersey City Mayor Steven M. Fulop. “It will connect families, especially new and expecting mothers, with the care and support they deserve to stay healthy.”
The satellite location is intended to address transportation barriers and scheduling challenges by bringing WIC services directly to patients where they already receive healthcare. With Metropolitan Family Health Network providing on-site OB/GYN services, families can access multiple essential services under one roof.
“This collaboration represents an important step forward in making health and nutrition resources more accessible for our community,” said Stacey Flanagan, director of health and human services.
“By working with Metropolitan Family Health Network, we are removing barriers such as transportation and multiple appointments, ensuring families can access the support they need in one trusted location,” Flanagan added.
