Jimmy Thelin blocks out Aberdeen sack noise as he insists players are fighting for him

Defiant Jimmy Thelin insists his Aberdeen players are still playing for him despite their miserable start to the season continuing with a disastrous defeat to Motherwell. The Reds were on course to claim just their second point of the campaign at Fir Park before conceding two goals in stoppage time that has left Thelin ‘s side rock bottom of the Premiership with one point from the first 15 available. Aberdeen have now failed to score in each of those games, with summer signing Marko Lazetic – recruited from AC Milan – squandering a big opportunity moments before a howler from last season’s Scottish Cup hero Dimitar Mitov handed Motherwell their first win of the league campaign. The Dons went into the game off the back of a a 1-0 Premier Sports Cup exit to the Steelmen at Pittodrie and a dismal 2-0 loss to Dundee United at Tannadice on Tuesday that saw fans stay behind after the full-time whistle to vent their fury at the Swede and his players . But the ex Elfsborg boss is hopeful their improved performance at Fir Park will convince fans to stick by the team. Speaking to Premier Sports, he said: “It was a really, really tough one. I thought the team showed up today and we were much better at fighting, much more collected. “I hope the fans can feel the different energy and connection. I think we started well with some good chances then Motherwell controlled the game. “You always win and lose together and the most important thing for me today was to get the points but connect with supporters. The belief is there and it is super important we stand up after this loss. “I think we deserved more, at least not to lose the game. To get the goal against you in 95 minutes is super tough.” Thelin continues to block out the noise and is now switching his focus to their huge Conference League opener in the Granite City against Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday. “What can I say? We have one point and scored zero goals, of course there is going to be noise. As a manager or a player you have to keep pushing. You can’t hide. “We know it’s a results business and we need to turn this around. Right now I’m not focused on that, I’m focused on the game on Thursday. “I think the fans really believed we could win the game, I think they feel more connection with the team.”
