Moline music shop, venue to close in October

The Sound Conservatory in Moline will close at the end of October.
The organization sold and provided rental instruments, hosted concerts and provided music lessons.
In a Facebook post on Friday, Sept. 19, Sound Conservatory staff posted:
“After several years of serving our community, Sound Conservatory will be closing its doors on October 30th, 2025. We are deeply thankful to everyone who has been part of our journey, students, families, performers, and music lovers alike. Whether you joined us for lessons, attended concerts, or simply stopped into our shoppe to talk music, your presence made Sound Conservatory a special place. It has been our privilege to share in your musical growth and passion.”
Ben Tinsman, owner and director of the Sound Conservatory, declined to comment on the reasons behind the closure.

Pianist and former owner Andrzej Kozlowski started the Conservatory in the historic former Illinois Theatre building in Rock Island in March 2022. In November 2023, the organization moved to the old Moline Public Library, also known as the Carnegie Library building.
The Sound Conservatory’s final concert was Saturday, Sept. 13. The concert, called Library Sessions, Chapter 4, featured Quad-Cities singers Cody James, Mo Carter and Soultru.
Kozlowski sold the store to Tinsman in July 2025. Kozlowski did not respond to requests comment.
All retail sales are 50% until Saturday, Oct. 25, after which the organization will be open for lessons only. The Sound Conservatory will close Thursday, Oct. 30.
