Rochester’s Hidden Treasure: Amazing Antique Trucks on Display

There is a fairly nondescript building near the south edge of Rochester that houses an incredible treasure.
It’s likely that thousands of people drive past it every day without realizing the significance of its contents. The structure sits along the east side of South Broadway near the Rochester airport. Inside is a preeminent collection of antique trucks assembled by a family that has dedicated 65 years to the trucking and service industry.
“65 Years of the Nuss Family Legacy in Trucking”
According to a website celebrating the Nuss Collection, it is the “dedicated hobby of Greg Nuss, Vice President and COO of Nuss Truck & Equipment, and is shared by the entire family.” Once a year, the Nuss family opens the doors and hosts an amazing event, giving the general public an opportunity to view, up close, the massive collection of meticulously restored antique trucks that represent “the story of American innovation in the pioneering vehicles that built our iconic infrastructure from the first skyscrapers to the national highway system.”
This year’s open house was held on September 20 and celebrated the Nuss family’s 65 years in the business as well as 125 years of Mack Trucks.
“Meticulously Restored Antique Trucks on Display”
As a lifelong resident of Rochester, I’m a bit embarrassed by my ignorance of the heritage of the Nuss company and the existence of the Nuss Collection. Luckily, I was made aware of it before this year’s open house and made it a point to visit. The following photos represent some of the incredible pieces of machinery I was able to view and learn about.
