An investigation is underway following a “fatal incident” in Cork on Thursday afternoon.
Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of the road traffic incident, which occurred on Church Road in Ballycotton, East Cork at around 3:30pm on Thursday.
A spokesperson for Gardaí confirmed that the L3633 road is closed, local diversions are in place and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified – but that no other information was available.
They told the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a road traffic incident on Church Road in Ballycotton, Co. Cork that occurred at approximately 3:30pm this afternoon, Thursday, 18 September 2025.
“The L3633 road is closed and local diversions are in place. The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has been notified. No further information is available at this time.”
RTÉ reports a man, who is understood to be in his 40s, was struck by a dumper truck while carrying out works in the area, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Health and Safety Authority said they were aware of the “fatal incident” and an investigation has been launched.
A spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: “The Health and Safety Authority is aware of the fatal incident and has launched an investigation. As such, no further information is available at this time.”
