Cory Mills Cuts Deal With Democrats To Save Ilhan Omar

Republican Florida Rep. Cory Mills was one of four Republicans who voted against the resolution to censure Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, apparently aiming to avoid the same fate.

Mills was the fourth deciding vote against the censure resolution against Omar introduced by Republican South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace, which ultimately failed. The vote came shortly after Mills had been threatened with a retaliatory censure resolution by Democrats, according to an Axios report.

Democrat Texas Rep. Greg Casar, chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, later confirmed to Axios that he planned to withdraw his resolution against Mills, according to a separate report.

The other Republicans, Nebraska Rep. Mike Flood, Colorado Rep. Jeff Hurd and California Rep. Tom McClintock sided with Democrats to table Mace’s attempt to censure Omar over her comments on the assassination of Charlie Kirk Wednesday. McClintock wrote in a post on X that while he found Omar’s remarks about Kirk “vile and contemptible,” he defended her right to express them, adding, “this disgusting and hateful speech is still speech and is protected by our First Amendment.”

All Democrats who cast a vote backed the move to set aside the resolution that sought to formally discipline Omar.

The day following Kirk’s assassination, Omar went on “Zeteo” and generated backlash over her comments. (RELATED: Ilhan Omar Says Those Remembering Kirk For The Good Are ‘Full Of Sh*t’)

“There is nothing more effed up … then to completely pretend that his words and actions have not been recorded and in existence,” she stated.

She also rejected the idea that Kirk fostered civil political debate on college campuses by engaging directly with those who opposed him.

“There are a lot of people who are out there talking about [Kirk] just wanting to have a civil debate,” Omar said. “These people are full of sh*t, and it’s important for us to call them out while we feel anger and sadness.”

Omar reposted a video deeming Kirk a “reprehensible human being,” according to Mace’s press release.

President Donald Trump was asked by a reporter on Tuesday about whether he would support her removal from her committee assignments. (RELATED: Trump Calls Out Big Problem With Ilhan Omar)

Trump responded that he would.

“I think she’s a disgraceful person … loser, it’s amazing the way people vote. I know it’s people from her area, maybe, of the world … They got here and they vote her in, it’s hard to believe, but I think she’s a disgusting person,” Trump told reporters.

The Daily Caller reached out to Mill’s and Casar’s offices for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.
