Tiruchi Sangamam – Namma Ooru Thiruvizha gets under way with participation by over 300 artists

The annual cultural extravaganza Tiruchi Sangamam – Namma Ooru Thiruvizha began in the city on Saturday, bringing together over 300 artists to showcase the rich folk music and dance forms of Tamil Nadu.

The two-day festival was inaugurated on the Corporation grounds near Tennur Uzhavar Sandhai by Tiruchi District Revenue Officer R. Rajalakshmi. Organised to revive and celebrate indigenous cultural practices, the event features a wide range of folk art forms, traditional music, and street performances.

On the opening day, artists from Tiruchi, Kancheepuram, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari, Pudukottai, Karur, Ariyalur, and Perambalur captivated the audience with vibrant performances. The evening’s entertainment began with Naiyandi Melam, followed by spirited performances of Karagattam, Oyilattam, Bharatanatyam, Pambai, Kai Silambu, Jikki Attam, Adimurai Nadanam, Therukoothu, and Thappattam. Artists presented dances and songs to the accompaniment of live music late into the night. The festival drew a large turnout of public and cultural enthusiasts from the city.

The festival will feature folk performances, including Parai Attam, Kummi Kolattam, Gramiya Pattu, and Villisai on Sunday.
