Ondo: Rep Adefarati donates patrol van to boost security in Akungba

As part of efforts towards addressing security concerns in Akungba-Akoko and surrounding communities, the lawmaker representing Akoko South-East and South-West Federal Constituency, Hon. Adegboyega Adefarati, has donated a brand new Toyota Hilux patrol van to the Akungba Police Division.

The lawmaker, while handing over the vehicle, said the gesture was in response to the rising spate of criminal incidents in the university town, which hosts the Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA).

The lawmaker disclosed that he was moved after reading about the heinous crimes that recently shook the community.

He said, “It is heartbreaking to see our people, especially students, living in fear because of the activities of criminals.

“I realised that the best way to respond was not to merely write condolences or express sympathy, but to take practical steps by empowering our police officers with the tools they need to do their work effectively. That is why I have provided this brand new Toyota Hilux for their operations.”

He explained that he carried out a careful review of the security situation in Akungba before making the decision.

According to him, providing logistics support to the police is a “direct way to ensure quicker response time, stronger patrol presence, and sustained peace in the community.”

Adefarati reaffirmed his commitment to community development, adding that security remains a top priority for him as a representative of the people.

“Our people deserve to live in peace, go about their daily activities without fear, and send their children to school without anxiety.

“This will not be the last. We will continue to find ways to support our security agencies and improve the welfare of our people.”

The Divisional Police Officer of Akungba, while receiving the vehicle on behalf of the command, expressed appreciation to the Honourable Member for the donation.

“This patrol van will go a long way in boosting our operations. Our men will now be able to respond to distress calls more promptly and cover more ground during patrols. On behalf of the Nigeria Police, we thank Hon. Adefarati for this timely intervention.”

The donation of the Toyota Hilux is widely regarded as a bold and commendable effort to reinforce safety in Akungba and its environs.

Community members and students also described the donation as a welcome initiative, describing it as a reassurance of safety in the university town.

A student of Adekunle Ajasin University, who simply identified herself as Mary, stated, “This is very encouraging.

“Many of us were becoming scared, especially with the news of attacks around town. Knowing that the police now have a new patrol vehicle makes us feel safer.

“We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this initiative on the community.”

Leaders from the communities also praised the lawmaker’s proactive approach, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.

The traditional council of the area lauded the gesture as one that will not only strengthen the police but also bring peace of mind to families, business owners, and visitors.
