The district has a great potential to grow as a major tourist hub of the State. The rich greenery, wildlife, and heritage sites had been attracting thousands of visitors every week, says Madhu Bangarappa
The Shivamogga district administration on Saturday unveiled a logo to promote tourism in the district and launched a website with information about the district’s popular destinations.
The administration had invited logo designs from the public, and the best among them was chosen as the logo, which depicts the popular destinations and uniqueness of Shivamogga district.
Minister for School Education Madhu Bangarappa, who is also the Minister in charge of the district, unveiled the logo and awarded prizes to the winners who participated in the photography and reels competitions, organised by the administration.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Madhu Bangarappa said the district had a great potential to grow as a major tourist hub of the State. The rich greenery, wildlife, and heritage sites had been attracting thousands of visitors every week.
The website launched by the district administration has attractive photos of 61 tourist places. The world famous Jog Falls, Nagara Fort, Agumbe, Kodachadri, Kuppali were among the popular destinations. “These places attract people from across the world. The government is taking measures to develop these destinations. If the tourism sector flourishes, local residents also get job opportunities,” he said.
MLA for Sagar Belur Gopal Krishna said that the State government had developed Jog Falls in Sagar taluk by spending nearly ₹200 crore. “We intend to attract tourists to the place throughout the year. We are planning a musical fountain, rain dance facility at the location,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde said that the administration took the suggestions of talented minds to popularise the tourist destinations. Many photographers and videographers took part in the competitions. The response to the efforts was impressive, he said.
The administration had conducted the photo competition in five categories and invited reels. A majority of the participants submitted photos of Jog Falls, Nagara Fort, Sigandur Bridge, Sharavati backwaters. A photo exhibition depicting tourist destinations and heritage of Shivamogga district was also organised on the occasion.
