Federal prosecutors have subpoenaed travel records for Fani Willis, the Georgia district attorney who brought election interference charges against President Donald Trump.
The Justice Department issued a federal grand jury subpoena seeking records about international trips Willis took near the time of last year’s election, The New York Times reported. Theodore Hertzberg, U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Georgia, leads the inquiry.
The investigation’s scope remains unclear. Grand jury proceedings are secret by law, and prosecutors haven’t disclosed whether Willis faces potential charges.
Jeff DiSantis, a spokesman for Willis, said Friday that “we have no comment beyond the fact we have no knowledge of any investigation.” (RELATED: Fani Willis Gets Fired From Trump Case For Good)
🚨 BREAKING: The Department of Justice has just SUBPOENAED the travel records of Fulton County, GA District Attorney Fani Willis, per NYT Things are REALLY heating up now 🔥 Federal investigators are seeking records pertaining to Willis’ travels abroad in the weeks leading up… pic.twitter.com/qwVS0Ib8Jb — Nick Sortor (@nicksortor) September 27, 2025
Willis charged Trump and several allies in August 2023 with orchestrating a “criminal enterprise” to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results. The case stalled after a state appeals court disqualified her last year following revelations about her relationship with Nathan Wade, the lawyer she hired to lead the prosecution.
The Georgia Supreme Court declined to hear Willis’s appeal last week, leaving the case against Trump dormant, according to the outlet.
Trump responded to that ruling on social media, calling Willis and others who brought cases against him “CRIMINALS who will hopefully pay serious consequences for their illegal actions.”
Willis, a Democrat, won re-election in November.
