‘Just do it’ might be Nike’s slogan, but it’s Kim Kardashian’s mantra.

Whether it’s fragrances, makeup, gaming, skincare, ‘Kimojis’ (her own range of emojis) or qualifying as a lawyer, the 44 year-old reality TV star has more strings to her bow than the Royal Philharmonic.

And now, she’s added another one – athletic wear – after partnering with sports giant Nike to launch NikeSkims, an activewear range that fuses the body-conscious look of Skims’ shapewear with Nike’s technical know-how and sporting legacy.

As is their way, the Kardashian clan, turned up mob-handed at the New York launch, held at Nike’s flagship store.

So, too, did a surprise guest. Martha Stewart, 84, was on hand to lend her support, though the lifestyle guru stopped short of wearing one of the brand’s skin-tight, figure-hugging creations.

That was left to Kim, who showcased a pair of charcoal grey leggings, £90, and matching long sleeved top, £72.

Both items were semi-transparent, allowing a glimpse of a matching Skims sports bra, £48, and high-waisted briefs layered underneath.

Her mother Kris Jenner, 69, eschewed semi-transparency for a pair of black leggings, £116, worn with a black half-zip top, £84. Sister Khloe Kardashian, 41, wore a similar black look with a subtle white side seam.

Sport fanatics might shake their heads in dismay, but Nike needs a populist hit to boost sluggish sales.

It might sponsor a slew of the world’s finest athletes, but its footwear and apparel isn’t currently best in class.

By partnering with Kim and her extended network of family and famous friends, it hopes to reach a more fashion-focused female customer.

Almost two years in the making, and following an expensive ad campaign featuring more than 50 female athletes including tennis star Serena Williams, the collection finally became available to buy at 3pm yesterday.

Whether it’s worth the hype – and there was a lot of hype – is a matter of debate.

The cheapest item is a £42 cami bra, which feels steep, given its lack of wiring or other support, while the most expensive item, a ‘racer long onesie’, is priced more competitively, at £158.

Colours are muted, with a choice of burgundy, chocolate brown, slate or black.

Sizes range from XXS to a 4X, the US equivalent of a UK30 – living up to the brand’s promise to be inclusive.

Prices for the highly-anticipated line, which has been almost two years in the making, start at £42 for a sports bra (pictured: Kim Kardashian at the launch event in New York)

As well as her famous family members, Kim was joined by a slew of recognisable faces including Martha Stewart at the event (pictured L-R: Khloe Kardashian; Martha Stewart; Kim Kardashian; Kris Jenner)

Bar the occasional pair of baggy shorts and trackpants, almost everything is skin-tight.

For those who shy away from the spray-on look, there’s the option of a £94 yoga mat and a nylon gym bag, priced £158.

All in all, it’s less a case of ‘just do it’ than ‘only do it if you’ve drunk the Kardashian Kool-Aid’.

Since millions already have – Kim has 355 million followers on Instagram – both she and Nike are likely be laughing all the way to the gym.
