MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Public Health Madison and Dane County’s team of registered nurses is prepared to help people find abortion services.
Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin will pause scheduling abortions starting next week. The organization said the pause is a result of Medicaid cuts in President Trump’s recently enacted tax and spending bill.
PHMDC said a full range of reproductive health services are essential for healthy communities, and access across Wisconsin is becoming limited.
“Losing Planned Parenthood clinics as an option for abortion care means the full spectrum of reproductive health care will become very difficult to access in Wisconsin,” said Public Health Supervisor Sarah Hughes in a statement.
Once the pause officially starts, there will be two clinics offering abortion services in Wisconsin. Both of the options are independent clinics in Milwaukee, per PHMDC.
With state law requiring two appointments 24 hours apart, a mandatory ultrasound and parental consent for minors, PHMDC expects to see a backlog in appointments.
Registered Nurses with PHMDC can help people find abortion services, secure money for care, emergency contraceptive and pregnancy support.
PHMDC said Nurse Navigators can be reached by calling or texting (608) 690-0893 during the week or by filling out an online form.
Planned Parenthood said its clinics will remain open for services other than abortion after the law takes effect on Oct. 1.
