Oldbury racially-aggravated rape: Police appeal for commuters who were in the area before attack to come forward

West Midlands Police has asked for anyone who was making their school or work commute at around 8.30am on the day of the attack near Tame Road, Oldbury to come forward to assist with their investigation into the rape of a young Sikh woman.

The victim, a woman in her 20s, was attacked by two men on Tuesday, September 9, in an attack that police have described as “racially-aggravated”.

During the attack the perpetrators allegedly told the woman “you don’t belong in this country, get out”, the Sikh Federation (UK) said.

One man in his 30s was arrested on Sunday (September 14) on suspicion of rape and has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

West Midlands Police said today that the investigation into the attack is ongoing, and again appealed for anyone with information to come forward, saying that attack happened at “a key time for people going to work or school”.

Chief Superintendent Kim Madill said: “This is a key time for people going to work or school and we need your help if you saw anything that may assist our enquiries.

“The victim, a young woman in her 20s, is at the heart of our enquiries and we continue to support her and keep her updated on developments.”

One of two men police had previously appealed for information about was described as white, with a shaved head and a heavy build, wearing a dark-coloured sweatshirt and gloves.

The other man was reported as white and was wearing a grey top with a silver zip.

Ms Madill added: “Whilst this is being treated as an isolated incident at this time, I understand the fear and concern this has caused for our communities.

“Violence against women and girls remains a key priority for me and my teams in Sandwell.

“Today, I would like to take this opportunity to ask for the public’s help to bring us information about who has carried out this horrendous attack.

“If you have any dashcam or doorbell footage that you think would help the investigation, please submit this via our dedicated public portal.”

The force also moved to reassure the public that officers are ‘doing everything possible’ to bring those responsible to justice.

Anyone with information relating to the attack can contact West Midlands Police on 101, quoting log number 798 of September 9.
