Andrew Cavenagh 'flies back' to America as three Rangers issues linger after Russell Martin summit

Rangers chairman Andrew Cavenagh has reportedly flown back to the USA after a week in Glasgow. Boss Russell Martin is under major pressure just 14 games into his tenure after a winless start to the Premiership campaign that has left the club sitting 11th in the table. Cavenagh – who owns the Glasgow giants alongside 49ers Enterprises – jetted into Glasgow last week and took in the Premier Sports Cup win over Hibs. The American tycoon was faced with a furious protest against Martin and CEO Patrick Stewart outside of Ibrox and during the game. The supremo was in the stands again for the Europa League clash with Genk – as Rangers slumped to a 1-0 defeat in front of just 38,000 fans. Martin revealed that he had a sit-down with Cavenagh after the game – and insisted he still has the backing of the Ibrox decision-makers. And Hugh Keevins has stated that chairman has now returned to Philadelphia – despite a host of issues remaining at the Light Blues. He told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: “Non-attendance is starting to become a problem. Now, Andrew Cavenagh was in Scotland for a week. “It’s my understanding that he flew back to Philadelphia today (Friday), however he has had a week to be informed by his appointees – what is going on, on and off the park, the reaction of the fans. “The fans want to know what he is going to do about it. You can’t have non-attendance, you can’t have four wins out of 14 and you can’t have a manager with an approval rating of zero.” Follow Record Sport on Twitter , Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond.
