Recently, the actress-turned-politician brought her trademark charm to the Mumbai airport, where her elegant presence instantly lit up the terminal.

Hema Malini’s Career
Hema Malini first stepped into the world of lights, camera and action in 1961, captivating audiences with her graceful Bharatanatyam skills and commanding screen presence in a Tamil film. She made her Bollywood debut in 1968 with Sapno Ka Saudagar, opposite Raj Kapoor. Her career-defining dual role in Seeta Aur Geeta soon catapulted her to stardom and earned her the Filmfare Best Actress Award.
Through the 1970s and 1980s, Hema Malini shared the screen with legends like Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra, delivering a string of blockbusters. Her standout films include Dream Girl (1977), Amir Garib, Prem Nagar, Khushboo, Satte Pe Satta (1982) and Baghban (2003).
But it was her unforgettable portrayal of the spirited Basanti in the 1975 classic Sholay that secured her place in the annals of Indian cinema. Hema Malini was last seen on the big screen in the 2020 film Shimla Mirchi.
Hema Malini’s Political Career
Beyond her film career, Hema Malini ventured into politics in 2003, serving as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha until 2009. She later joined the BJP and made her electoral debut in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, where she defeated Jayant Chaudhary of the Rashtriya Lok Dal from the Mathura constituency by a margin of 3,30,743 votes.
She went on to retain the Mathura seat in the 2019 general elections, defeating Kunwar Narendra Singh, and once again in 2024, when she secured a victory over Congress candidate Mukesh Dhanger.
