There will be a new women’s champion of the Barbados Open, while the defending men’s champ is in line for a four-peat.
Last night in the semifinals at Dover, Rachel Smith ended the run of defending women’s champ Kim Holder, beating her in two straight sets 21-17, 21-11.
The other women’s finalist is Sheldene Walrond, who dismissed Maudlyn Blunt also in straight sets 23-21, 21-14.
On the men’s side, three-time defending champ Mark “Venom” Griffith easily got by 17-year-old Jael Greaves 21-15, 21-13, 21-11.
However, the other semi went the distance, with Shakeem Nurse defeating Davien Taylor three games to two, 21-17, 21-19, 19-21, 19-21, 21-18.
The finals and the third-place playoffs are set for Saturday night at the Wildey Gym.
