India’s disappointing run at the ISSF World Cup (rifle/pistol) continued on Wednesday, with the men’s 10m air pistol trio — Samrat Rana, Amit Sharma, and Nishant Rawat — all failing to make the finals.
Meanwhile, China underlined its supremacy in the event, sweeping gold and silver medals.
Samrat Rana Narrowly Misses Out
Former junior world championship team gold medallist Samrat Rana, only 20 years old, emerged as the best Indian performer in the qualifiers. However, his score of 582 was well below his potential and left him in 10th place, just outside the final cutoff.
At the top of the qualification standings, China’s Hu Kai shot a commanding 589. He carried that form into the final, clinching gold with 242.3 points, while his compatriot You Changjie claimed silver with 241.5.
The one-two finish extended China’s tally in the competition to four medals — two gold and two silver — underlining their dominance in pistol events. In contrast, India are yet to open their account in the ongoing tournament.
Amit Sharma and Nishant Rawat Falter
It was another frustrating outing for Amit Sharma, who had narrowly missed the finals in the mixed 10m air pistol event with partner Surbhi Rao a day earlier. On Wednesday, he finished a disappointing 28th with 576.
Nishant Rawat struggled further, managing only 568, which placed him 42nd in the field.
Divya Subbaraju Shines in 25m Pistol
While the men faltered, India found some encouragement in the women’s 25m pistol event. Divya Subbaraju delivered a strong performance in the precision round, scoring 291 (97, 94, 100) to secure seventh place among 37 shooters.
Her consistency keeps her firmly in contention for a place in the final when the rapid-fire round takes place on Thursday.
Among the other Indian women, Abhidnya Patil stood 19th with 288, while seasoned campaigner Rahi Sarnobat — a Commonwealth and Asian Games gold medallist — had a subdued outing, finishing 26th with 286.
