Delhi Capitals co-owners likely to bring back THIS team in Caribbean Premier League

New Delhi: The GMR Group co-owners of IPLs Delhi Capitals are likely to bring back Jamaica Tallawahs franchise in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
In recent years GMR a significant infrastructure conglomerate based in India has expanded its presence in the cricket world. The team is actively involved with the Southern Brave in The Hundred the Hampshire in English county cricket the Seattle Orcas in Major League Cricket and the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20. Additionally GMR owns teams in Indian sports like kho kho and kabaddi.
Jamaica Tallawahs have not featured in the league for the past two edition
Jamaica Tallawahs three-time CPL champions and one of the six original teams have been absent from the league for the past two editions. Their previous owner Kris Persaud returned the franchise to the league in 2023 and acquired the rights to a new team which was launched as the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.
Persaud blamed the Jamaican governments lack of support for the disbanding of the franchise. However following the recent investment in Sabina Park facilities the sports and tourism ministry announced that it was finalising arrangements for the return of a CPL franchise to Jamaica ahead of this months elections which saw the incumbent Labour Party hold onto power.
GMR are seen as frontrunners to take over the franchise from next year
ESPNcricinfo has learned that GMR officials were present at Sundays CPL final and are seen as frontrunners to take over the franchise from next year. Their entry would make them the seventh team in the league resulting in an expanded schedule with more fixtures.
Earlier this month CPL chief executive Pete Russell said the league is very excited at the prospect of a return to Jamaica after fruitful and engaging discussions with the government. We are hopeful that these negotiations will reach a positive conclusion in the coming months Russell added.
